# How to settle

## See what each person owes

After a Checkpie is completed, every guest has a share to pay back. Guests see **I owe \[name]** with their amount; the owner sees the matching amount owed to them.

## Payment options

If the owner has set up payment options, guests can use them to pay their share directly.

## Debts in finerd

Each share that isn't paid in cash becomes a **debt** in finerd, so the money you're owed doesn't get lost.

* finerd can create a **new debtor** for a guest, or you can link the share to an **existing debtor** — pick the person under **From my debtors** → **Select debtor**.
* Linking to an existing debtor keeps everything that person owes you in one place across bills.

## Mark as settled

When a guest pays you back, settle the debt to close it out. The amount stops showing as outstanding on both sides.
