# How to join and select items

## Open the link and join

Open the link the owner shared. On the join screen:

1. Enter your name in **Enter your name**, or — if other people have already joined — pick yourself under **Or choose yourself**.
2. Tap the avatar to change it (**Tap the face to try a new look**).
3. Tap **Join**.

No account or install is needed — you join straight from the browser.

## Select your items

You'll see the full receipt with each item's quantity and price. **Pick the items you ordered.** Shared items can have several people on them, so more than one guest can be on the same line.

## Split a shared item

For something shared — a bottle of wine, a platter — open the item and split it. Checkpie asks **how many people are sharing it**, you set how many parts are yours, and it shows your share right away, for example **You'll pay 2/4 = \$5.00**.

## See your summary

Your summary shows how much you owe the owner, your share of the bill as a percentage, and the list of items you claimed. When you're done, head to [Settle up](/checkpie/settle-up) to pay your share.

  Everything updates live. If the owner edits the receipt or someone else claims a shared item, you'll see it without reloading.
