# How to create

## Create a Checkpie

You can start a Checkpie two ways:

* **From a transaction** — open the transaction for a bill you paid that has an itemized receipt and choose **Create checkpie**.
* **From a receipt on its own** — create the bill/receipt directly and start the Checkpie from there.

Either way, finerd opens the **Review receipt** screen, where you confirm everything before sharing.

## Review the items

Each line shows the item **name**, **quantity**, and **total price**. On the Review receipt screen you can:

* Edit an item's name, quantity, or price.
* Add a missing item with **Add items**.
* Remove anything that shouldn't be there.

## Add charges

Use **Add charges** for anything on top of the items — **Tax**, **Tip**, **Discount**, **Service**, **Delivery**, or a **Custom** charge. A tip can be a fixed amount or a percentage of the items.

You don't assign charges to anyone. Checkpie spreads them across guests in proportion to the items each person claims. See [How Checkpie works](/checkpie/how-it-works).

## Add cash contributors

If someone handed you cash toward the bill, add them with **Add cash contributors**. Their contribution is taken off the top before the rest of the bill is split, so they aren't double-charged.

## Share the link

Once the receipt looks right, share the Checkpie. Send the link or let people scan the **QR code** — anyone who opens it can join and start picking their items.

<Note>
  The link stays the same for everyone, so you can share it in a group chat. Guests join from the browser without a finerd account.
